iacocca (6k image)Ever worked for the boss from hell? Ever had a job you wish you didn't have? You're unappreciated. The boss knows all and you don't know anything. Any of your great ideas are not only threatening to your boss, but they are shot down immediately. Ever stayed with this job until the boss fired you?

If so, I would suggest you do what Iacocca did: become the owner of your x-boss's failing competitor, pull it out of bankruptcy in less than three years, make it the leading seller in the industry, and then threaten to buy out your x-boss's company.

Lee Iacocca's story has inspired all who have heard it. He started working for Ford Motor Company in 1946. Included in his long list of accomplishments is the creation of the Mustang. Working his way to the top of the company, Iacocca was eventually fired over a power struggle with Henry Ford in 1978.

Mad, discourage, but not beaten, Iacocca joined a failing company, Chrysler, as the President and CEO. Chrysler had just reported its worst earnings ever.

Over the next decade, Iacocca not only pulled Chrysler out of complete collapse, but he also introduced the Minivan, became the hero for executives the world over, almost bought out Ford, and turned down a nomination for President of the United States.

This book tells his entire story. It does an incredible job of showing how he became the best at Ford and details how he completely turned around the failing Chrysler corporation.

Personable and detailed, this book delivers Iacocca's full story, including his views on the events that have taken place in his life: what he liked or didn't like, what he wish he had done differently or not at all, and what he would like to do again. Iacocca's no nonsense approach to life and business is a mentality that is desperately needed in today's world.

This book is for anyone who wants to be inspired by this rare breed of man. Iacocca's methods are timeless, and his attitude towards problems and how to fix them will leave you encouraged.

About Lee Iacocca
Born in Allentown, PA 1924.

In 1946 he joined the Ford Motor Company, where he rose to president (1970-78). He left the company after a dispute with Henry Ford II and became president (1978) and then chairman (1979) of the Chrysler Corp., restoring it through shrewd financial policies, a $1.2 billion loan guarantee, and tax concessions granted by Congress.

In the 1980s, he also served as chairman of the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation and engineered Chrysler's $1.5 billion acquisition of American Motors. Iacocca retired at the end of 1992, but in 1995 he aided billionaire Kirk Kerkorian in his unsuccessful attempt to win control of Chrysler.

Lee Iacocca is a great source of inspiration for people, who become
innocent victims of internal politics in an organization.

This sounds just like the situation I had to face at work. It lasted almost a year, one which no one can ever give me back. However, I fought it through the Union, HR, and my personal documentation. They said I "won" but there is no "win-win" in a situation as this. It's terrible some people don't care about other people!!! By the way, I STILL have my job; however, I have a new team leader who is so much better. I've kept and will continue to keep all my documentation; I may write a book to tell my story--probably with names disguised after I complete my Master's and have some extra time. My Master's is in Human Resource Management-go figure!!!

lee locoa is one of the pioneers that shaped the detroit's ailing industries in the face of chrysler. lee lacoa is exceptional in the sense that he turned the chrysler when the detroit's big 3 were facing the stiffest competition from the Japanses automakers.

Iacocca is an exceptional guy and proved to be a mastermind. After such ups and downs in life, any one may feel depressed. But Iacocca, fighting all adversaries, proved to be a HERO.
Even his second book, TALKING STRAIGHT!! is quite good. His affection towards his parents and family is worth observing and following.
One must read both the books to get some insight. Worth reading!! And my all time favorite!!!!

Things are not always what they seem. Read this review of the book "Behind the Wheel at Chrysler: The Iacocca Legacy" by Publishers Weekly:

In a hard-hitting, demythologizing portrait of former Chrysler chairman Lee Iacocca, Levin dismantles the public image of Iacocca as a shrewd, can-do executive and the savior of Chrysler. A Detroit Free Press business columnist, Levin paints Iacocca as a self-aggrandizing, fame-obsessed car man who hogged credit for rescuing Chrysler from bankruptcy in 1979-80, when, in fact, the bailout was a collective effort, with key roles played by Chrysler honchos Steve Miller and Gerald Greenwald. In Levin's scathing portrait, Iacocca injected flair into Chrysler models, making superficial rather than substantive changes and demonizing Japanese automakers instead of learning from their stunning leaps in efficiency and quality. According to Levin, Iacocca's bungling, blindness and preoccupation with celebrity nearly drove Chrysler once again into bankruptcy, causing the board to force him into retirement in 1992. This meticulous expos lays bare the gaping holes in Iacocca's bestselling 1984 autobiography. (July)

As any aspiring automotive industry memeber, I have come to learn a lot about the man who literally blew the doors off the entire automotive industry in the prime of his time, that man was Carroll Shelby. But just recently, I started to learn a bit more about other essential members to this automotive evolution, as I like to call it.

Lee Iacocca indeed possesses a record unlike any other individual that I have come to learn about. Making his name throughout the Ford and Chrysler years the way he did, quite frankly, is an inspiration to anyone who one day would like to form part of the industry.

At the time I find myself pursuing my studies in Engineering, an just recently I came up with the idea of privately-funding my own vehicle (based in San Diego, CA), with the ambition to stomp the Enzo Ferrari, Carrera GT, SLR McLaren, and possibly even the McLaren F1 LM, with better horsepower, performance, looks, an most importantly, a more friendlier retail.

Who knows what the next 3 or even 5 years will bring, but I am now fully aware about Iacocca, and am confident that studying his lifelong journey will eventually enhance my approach and outcome of my career.

Hello,

This is the only outlet, I have found to address Mr. IAcoco:

I am hoping this memo will reach, Mr. IAcoca as soon as possible.
My son, whom I visit in California every three month's and who is a graduate of Azusa Pacific University, rented me a car from Enterprise Rent A Car Company, in Azusa. The car I received was
a Dodge Neon 2004. Mr. Iacoca, I felt that this vehicle was unsafe as I drove it back and forth from the San Fernando Valley, to Azusa to see and visit with my son. August the 10th, sir, approximatel 12:30 noon, traveling East on the Pasadena (210) freeway, the steering in this vehicle went out of control.
This caused the vehicle to swerve every where, with me trying to control it, however, to no avail, it went it's own way. As a result of this, a truck hit the vehicle on the pasenger side, occupied by a dear friend. The car was flipped over, hit again by the same truck, flipped twice, and then flipped right side up again, facing the oncomming (210) freeway traffic. I am very hurt and so is my friend, however, we have not seeked any medical attention because, neither one of us can afford it. This accident was not my fault sir, the CHP report is pure speculation, and most of the information written did not come from my lips. Being flipped over three times and being almost killed, no one is capable of giving any accurate information, so I only gave the information, I was able to and I know exactly what I said. Mr. Iacoca, I am asking you if you would check this vehicle, because, I cannot fight you sir, but what I am saying is the honest to God truth. I am devasted this happened to the both of us, and we are not dead. Would you please read this and advise me. I am a big fan of your's, however, not my life but my dear friend's life would have made me take my own life, if she had not survived. We were both blessed, this was a direct act "Divine Intervention" from "God" that we did not die.
Sir, the airbags, never released themselves as well. Would you
please respond?....................Sincerely, LLD.

I hope Mr. Iacocca does get to see this. He is the only CEO I would have ever trusted. The problem is, he is truthworthy, the Chrysler Corporation of today is not.

Unlike the oriental automakers who pride themselves in good, lost lasting cars, Chrysler puts poor quality parts in new vehicles. The PT Cruiser, one of the true success stories of cars, has a warning, that the spark plug wires must be changed at 60,000 miles. I have had 22 cars over the years. Only replced wires in a Ford truck after 24 years.

And believe me the spark plug wires WILL NOT GO 60,000 miles at that. 48 thousand might be more like it. And the poor quality spark plugs is another thing--bad, bad, bad. I could go into the flimsy brake rotors, and who knows what else.
And the worse thing, Chrysler really doesn't care. They feel as American auto makers have for more than 50 years there is another sucker around every corner.

What would it cost Chrysler to put in good wires and good spark plugs and brake rotors, another $25? It's the customer who ends up paying, and next time will look to Honda or for something not made in America. I would like to hear Mr. Iacocca's thoughts on that. Thank you.
