True...in the game, Enter the Matrix, the replacement actress for Gloria has a few scenes. Instead of just writing out the character (the way they did with Tank), but more or less used some excuse that she had to change her appearance to hide in the Matrix. Also, the new actress just doesn't have the charm, depth, or personality that Gloria gave to the character. Long live Gloria Foster - The Oracle.

I've been pondering myself but to no avail, it must be something that she did'nt believe before.

But mostly I've been wondering something else,
At the start of the conversation she says she knows he's not sleeping and that "we'll get to that" but apparently does not. how come.
Now her exact words were "I know you're not sleeping" this could be interpreted to she knows he's been having trouble sleeping or he's not sleepng at the time they are speaking?
I don't get it.

Well. I'm really lucky I found this transcript. I watched the movie twice, and still couldn't understand what the Oracle's words really meant.

If I may add a comment, I also paid a lot of attention to the candy she gave Neo and how much it resembled the Red Pill. Also, I think it's important to notice that we were led to believe that Neo had powers only inside the Matrix.

That could mislead us into thinking that he, much like Seraph and The Oracle, was a program written by the machines. That's a FACT. Up until the end of Reloaded, Neo's powers were only seen when they were hacking the Matrix. But after the explosion of the Neb, he realizes that he felt something outside the Matrix too.

So, I wonder, what other events could have "awoken" him to this newfond powers? Other than the Candy, there are no situations that could have altered his consciousness, or his awareness to those powers (hell, all the time he's just woopin' other programs asses.

Ergo, (hehe) I think the Oracle helped Neo in that sense. That way, he doesn't need any hard lines to defeat the machines, or any kind of weapon to destroy them. I think that the prophecy Morpheus talks so passionately about will be fulfilled outside the Matrix.

Well. Those are my thoughts. Hope you enjoy. And let's all wait until november for the conclusion of this amazing story.

when neo asked her are there any programs like her, she said: "oh, well, not like me. but... look, see those birds? at some point a program was written to govern them. a program was written to watch over the trees, and the wind, the sunrise, and sunset.

there are no trees in the matrix!

that's the key that solves the mistery about oracle.

There are other hints about a second Matrix (the "real" world) along the way.

Neo is given a spoon by the orphans before he leaves Zion. Its an obvious allusion to the first movie -- "there is no spoon". Its not a reminder of what he already knows (the Matrix isn't real), but a hint at what he doesn't know (Zion isn't real either).

There is the red pill/candy the Oracle gives Neo.

The Oracle also knows that Neo isn't sleeping well. How? That's happening in the real world? This seems to push the bounds of logic, unless the real world isn't real at all. If its just another program it makes much more sense.

When Neo finds the Architect, early in the scene, the monitors in the room show scenes from the "real" world. How else would these images appear? How else would the machines have a record of things happening on the Neb, in the "real" world?

I also believe that Neo ate that candy later, but I could be wrong.

I just want to comment on the oracle cast-change:
Gloria Foster was an amazing actor (at least in the matrixI+II), the Oracle she did was full of wit and charm. Just the way she talks is lovable "Bingo! It is a pickle, no doubt about it".
However, I think that the change in characters is appripriate. Why?
Well, the Wachowskis has said that Reloaded is about life and Revolutions is about death. (Can't remember what the first on was about)
Gloria seemed to be full of life and vitality. She was joyful, witty and had a grandmother-like quality that the new actor does not.
The new oracle (whose name I don't remember) is much more gloomy, and dark. The way she talks has an entirely different quality "I see the darkness spreading" etc. (from the tralier/teaser). She is a more "genuine" oracle the way you imagine it, with dire premonitions and propheies.
I think she fits Revolutions perfectly.

Btw. The question Lindley asked; That when the oracle speaks of neo not sleeping and the "we'll get to that" which they never get to... I think it can be answered easily. The reason could be that they simply never recorded the scene before she passed away... And since they wanted to keep her in the movie they (Wachowskis) had to work with what they had.

Another possible secret revealed by the Oracle, assuming that "reality" in the Matrix is simply another level of the Matrix, is that when the Oracle said "I know you're not sleeping well," she might have meant the real power source that is the final, physical, end-point-reality of Neo's body is not resting well. Perhaps this would help explain the candy/pill, because she realizes Neo's body is beginning to reject the Matrix at its fundamental level. Therefore, Neo would have to begin realizing the truth, and by the end of Reloaded, just barely have an inkling of the true scope of the Matrix (there really wouldn't have been time for him to just sit around and think about it, what with getting the Keymaker and all...). But, we'll see when the third movie comes out.

This whole Neo being a program theory is a trip! It's sounding more and more convincing. the Oracle says "...a program can either choose to hide here, or return to The Source.". When Neo meets the architect, the architect says "....The function of the One is now to return to the source,.." Man This stuff is good!Can't wait to see this thing in November. Ok, by the way, for those who havent noticed yet, when Neo goes to meet the merovingian, that dude being escorted away has soemthing central to do with revolutions, hes in one of the trailers.And of course, Bane is Smith!!!

I'm responding to Ringworm's matrix within a matrix theory.How does the Oracle know that Neo hasn't been sleeping well?and the scenes from the Neb? Well consider this:the matrix is a state of mind i.e. wheneva Neo enters it he is part of the system although he knows its not real.Therefore the machines r probably able to insert programmes/dreams(the door of light) into his mind.They could do so via the Oracle's candy/biscuits.The only thing known by the Oracle is that he has seen the door made of light,which probably feels quite real in his dreams and scary. She doesn't know what happens in terms of what response he chooses to the door of light,basically she is testing whether or not he has made the "right" choice(the one suitable to her/machines).THat's why when she realises he has but is not quite willing to accept his choice,she guilt trips him into accepting it(Zion will fall comment).However she goes on about the future and that the only way 2 get there is 2gether.Here I think is where she probably was at clashed with the Architect.She(remember intuitive programme, therefore can foresee certain outcomes) realises that sooner or later we're all gonna have to work together otherwise the whole thing is gonna fall apart.Her 1st objective is to look out for own kind although she might seem as if she's lookin out for our kind,sending Neo 2 the source is purely for the machines 2 benefit,not telling him about the other previous ones and the destruction of Zion the previous 5 times proves that.But she realises that in order to keep up the matrix for the benefit of other machines she has to look out for our kind first.The Architect on the other hand doesn't care either way as long as the machines come out on top(the are levels of survival we are willing 2 accept comment).So for the Oracle its really a case of I'm on the human side for the greater good of machines world wide and myself.For the Architect its a case of I'm on the machine side come hell or whateva because I know I'll probably be one of the machines that survive this catastrophe.
Going back 2 scenes of the Neb at the Architect place-there aren't any but i'll hire the movie to make sure.

I thought the matrix INSIDE the matrix thing was obvious.

When agent Anderson takes over the body of a Zionist, and then goes inside the "real" world...

When he gets the second "there is no spoon" message, inside the "real" world...

And again, at the end, when he can "feel" the sentinals in the "real" world...

It seems that Neo is simply on the verge of "waking up", again.

"We'll get to that." They DO get to that. They discuss in detail the dream/vision that is disturbing Neo so much.

"You've made a believer out of me." This is a telling phrase, pretty much the only thing she says that suggests she isn't necessarily doing only what the Architect would have us believe. Fuel for much speculation there.

An alternate suggestion to the Matrix-inside-Matrix theory, which I don't believe in on the grounds that it is not a dramatically satisfying explanation (though the Wachowski's could probably pull it off if anyone can) is that Neo is merely gaining power over _machines_ in the real world. Similar to the crossover that allows Smith to hijack a human's mind, I speculate that Neo is learning to sense and affect the Matrix and machines directly from the real world. (Another clue: in the Revolutions trailer the Oracle says that Neo is trapped between the two worlds, man and machine.)

I don't really care if I'm right or not, but I get kind of miffed when people claim that _their_ conclusions are obvious...

Oh, and the candy was just a candy. If there is an explanation for why Neo's powers seem to be expanding in unexpected ways, it's from what happened at the end of the first movie. Smith even speculates in Reloaded about a connection having been made between him and Neo, suggests that some crossover occurred that is now causing him to disobey the rules of the system, and that he is now free (as much as Neo is free.) No candy involved. I'm sorry, I thought this was obvious! ;-)

I'm looking forward to having the 3rd film prove me wrong. Have fun, everybody!

how can you people be so stupid. Candy is candy...it dont make any difference to neo's power. Neo has his power due to the fact that he is 'the one'. As you see him in 'The Matrix' flying into the sky before the credits, before he 'supposedly' ate the candy, which i might add, didnt. I think the majority of you that post...make up possibilities. Facts can only be proven if they are shown or somehow portrayed in the movie. I suggest watching the movie could help as you guys have no idea what is going on.

ok.. even after watching revolutions a lot of questions are still left up in the air. but it seems to me that everyone is still a sleep. at the end of reloaded the architect tells neo that humans excepted the feed more if they where given a choice even if that choice was at an unconscious level >hints "the matrix" or "the real world"

There is only one problem with the so called obvious matrix within a matrix theory... When the rebel guy on the neb (tank i think) pulls out the other guys (cypher i think)jacking in thing - The scene where claims everything morpheus says is a lie.) How does the guy die... If it were a matrix within a matrix the guy wouldnt die because his body is elsewhere... thus contradicting neo being a program and the matrix within a matrix theory... but thats just a formaility i supose since everyone claims their theories are SO OBVIOUS....

Those of you that thought Neo was in a matrix, within a matrix has put to much thought into it. It is explained quite simply that the powers of "the one" exsists in both worlds. It is only up to Neo to expand his mind, to explore his abilities. Also if you have any computer knowledge you will know that once Neo destroyed Smith a part of the system was embeded in him, hence making Neo a part of that system, thus carrying his abilities in the real world. (ie. being able to feel the sentinels, destroy them, able to see while physically being blind....etc) Keep an open mind, but try not to think so hard. The messege "there is no spoon" was sent by that child once while being jacked-in, and once in the real world to remind Neo before he goes back in that "there is no spoon". Neo also recited that quote, as he was on the top of the elevator with Trinity, if you remeber shortly after he used that quote...he dodged bullets (Trinity: I never seen anyone move that fast, you move like them) the kid and that quote, was a constant reminder for Neo that while in the matrix, nothing is real, and to "free your mind" from boundries......................
