Our office has a casual dress-code in the summer. You can find people sporting jeans and even shorts depending on the heat. There are days when someone will push the casual dress-code to the limits.
Today was one of those days.
I walked passed a developer who was wearing shorts, flip-flops, and a t-shirt that looked like it had its prime back in the early 90's. Normally, I wouldn't care, but today was a special day for the office.
"Nice flip-flops you got there," I said.
"Thanks," he replied laughing.
"Decided to get dressed up for the CEO today, did ya?" That's right. The CEO was doing his quarterly visit to the office and he was coming all the way from Atlanta. In attendance with him were several other director/executive type people.
"Sure did," he replied laughing again and walked away.
I passed by a few more developers who were in business casual dress. I told them the story and they laughed.
Two hours later
I was in a discussion across several cubicles with some coworkers about a technical issue. When there was a break in the conversation, someone mentioned our meeting with the CEO.
Ol' Flip-Flops stood up and said, "Yeah, I took Scott's words to heart." I leaned over his cube and saw him in a polo shirt, khakis, and a dress shoes.
"What did you have clothes in your car or something?" I questioned.
"Naw, I went home and changed."
"Probably a good career move."
