I first installed the Google Desktop a little over a month ago.
It's supposed to be like having Google on your computer. While your computer is idle, it will crawl your machine and index all the files on your computer including your emails and instant messenger conversation. The search results will be available when you do a regular Google search.
I was unimpressed and was ready to uninstall after a week until I had lost a file. I looked through my computer with no luck. Then I googled for the file and found it immediately. I was in love.
But today, I was disturbed to find out what else I have on my computer. Google indexes all the files on my computer with no discretion and I am ashamed.
Just look at some of the search results.
"annoying songs"
How could I have ended up with 21 "annoying songs" on my computer? All the songs I listen to are amazing. And who does Google think it is to determine which of my songs are annoying?
"lame"
I think that Google indexed my folder of XP updates/hotfixes. There was about 188 of them.
"crap"
I never realized I had so much crap on my computer. 588? That's a lot. I'm going to delete the copies of my Verizon phone bills and that'll most likely take the number down.
