Earlier this year, I bought an obnoxious hat. After searching through half a dozen stores for a decent Dallas Cowboys hat, I settled on making my own.
I got a black hat and put a patch on it that says "GUNS ARE FUN".

I've gotten countless comments on it, but they usually fit into three categories:
1) Oh man, that's a great hat.
2) Do you actually own a gun?
3) GUNS ARE FUN MAN, WOOOHOOO!!!!
I'm not really trying to make any type of statement or draw attention to myself by wearing the hat; I just like it.
My wife and the hat
Luckily, my wife accepts me for who I am along with all my idiosyncrasies.
At least this was the case until I was going to meet two boys that she babysat. They were between four and five years old, and their parents were very strict about guns. They weren't allowed to watch violence or play with toy guns.
On the way to the boys' house, Dawn told me not to wear the hat. I asked why and this led to a 20-minute "discussion" where we rationally talked about the hat and not offending the boys parents.
Who am I kidding? We were yelling at each other. She wanted the hat off and I refused to remove it.
Meeting the kids
Finally, we pulled up to the house. One of the boys was outside along with his parents. I opted to meet them without the hat.
I don't remember their names, so they will be known as Boy 1 and Boy 2.
Boy 1 was shy and hid behind his mom.
Suddenly, Boy 2 came running out of the house yelling, "Dawn! Dawn! Look what I got." I noticed he was wearing a camouflage suit similar to those used by hunters. He also had a bag.
"What have you got there?" Dawn asked.
He held up a ziploc bag, "My grandpa went dove hunting and gave me one of the doves." Sure enough, there was a dead dove in the ziploc bag.
Boy 2, not wanting to be shown up by his younger brother, reached into his pocket and pulled something out.
"Look what I got," he said as he proudly held up a wooden rubber band gun.
