Statute of Limitations for Movie Plots

While eating a cheese steak with some friends after a horror flick, we began comparing it to other fine, quality cinema.

Eventually, someone compared the ending of the film to Texas Chainsaw Massacre. "I thought they were going to kill the guy at the very end just like they did in 'Chainsaw Massacre," he said.

"No, dude. The chick got away in 'Chainsaw. Remember?" I corrected.

"No. No. Remember, the chick went to the police station and the sheriff ended up being related to all the crazies?" Said friend #2.

It was all too clear for me. "That was in the middle of the movie. The chick gets away in the end. Remember, the big black trucker dude showed up and helped her? The trucker even got his leg cut by the chainsaw."

"Oh yeah," said friend #1.

"You guys were thinking of House of 1000 Corpses where the clown guy appeared to be helping the chick. Then she was killed," friend #2 added.

"Oh yeah. That's right," said friend #3.

Proud of my superior knowledge when it comes to horror movie endings, my fuzzy feeling quickly went away when friend #4 said, "Son of bitch, guys. Thanks for ruining the ending to Texas Chainsaw' for me."

Statute of Limitations for Movie Plots/Endings
After some debate, my friends and I came to the following conclusion: Four years is the statute of limitations for holding the secrecy of a movie plot or ending. After that, it's fair game.

In the case of Texas Chainsaw Massacre, it was released in 1974. So it's past the limitation point by about 28 years.

Wow. I remember that. Man, I'm happy to be featured so prominently in your articles as "Friend #2" or as a member of the ever mysterious "Couple" from the Batman Begins review.

Also, he was mad about us ruining House of A 1000 Corpses.
